Review of Matt’s Jump Blues Video published by TrueFire in De Gitarist (feb 2007-Dutch).

“If you were to play the cd Man in Shades without knowing that the singer/guitar player is from Amsterdam (in the Netherlands), chances are that you would think you’d be listening to a US born-and-bread singer-songwriter. One with a very unique sound, though. Brandt’s roots are definitely in blues, but here he uses a more broad approach to his arrangements. Sometimes with Jazz influences (the opener ‘Life is a Joke’ makes you think of Tim Buckley’s jazz –folk), sometimes with Rock influences (Caught in the Headlights), but mostly pure Americana, using trumpet and soprano saxophone as well as banjo and mandoline. After a jazz beginning and a rocker the cd becomes stronger and stronger, with 12 of his own compositions that prove that Brandt can easily do without playing covers. This album is solid as steal and one of the greatest surprises that’s come of of Dutch soil lately.”

With a particularily great voice…
The Netherlands has more talent, which we sometimes take for granted.
